In 2023, I was charged with conceptualizing label alternatives to substantially reduce the environmental impact of Majestic packaging in coordination with BUNZL's Environmental Impact Task Force.
The goal:
Significantly and measurably reduce environmental impact of inner packaging
Option 1
~74.3% less paper
~87.1% less ink
~87.1% less ink
from 4/4 on 70 sq. in. (CMYK) to 2/2 on 18 sq. in. (spot colors)
By creating a flat grayscale TIF of the "hero" image along with a black mask for the spot color that is replaced with high visibility coloring, the file stays lightweight and flexible to create files for variant garments quickly.
Pros
Includes product photo
Includes 'More Safety, Less Waste' trademark & QR link

Cons
Front loaded concept; requires greater asset development before full implementation
Would involve greater QA focus, checking spot color accuracy on new imports
Requires more ink and paper than option 2
More labor/higher monetary costs than option 2
